G.P.S. Bhelda – The Journey of a Smile | Himdent Foundation x Smiling School Program
On 16th and 17th April, Himdent Foundation, under its Smiling School Program, organised a remarkable two-day free dental treatment camp at Government Primary School Bhelda, the camp was sponsored by Mr. Amit Punj. Nestled in the hills, the school is about 1 km away from the road that passes through dense deodar forest, our team reached the school through narrow paths carrying all the dental equipment.
Day 1 – Orientation and Checkup
When we reached the school, we were greeted by eager young faces and curious smiles. The first task was to set up our mobile dental unit, followed by a detailed orientation session, where we educated the students about basic oral hygiene, the importance of brushing and the need for regular dental checkups.
A total of 15 students were checked on the day. Out of these, 12 children were found to have dental problems – about 27 of them had decayed or injured teeth. Each of these students was given a consent form which was sent home for their parents to sign.
Day 2 – Dedicated to Treatment
The second day was reserved for treatment – and it came with its own challenges. Despite frequent power cuts, the team did not give up. We performed permanent fillings and dental scaling (cleaning) for all the children in need, at the end of the day we completed 27 permanent restorations.
We thank the school staff, students and our dedicated team members who carried forward the spirit of service at every step.
