Himdent Foundation Successfully Concludes Two-Day Dental Health Camp at GUPS and GHS Oni

The Himdent Foundation recently organized a two-day dental health camp at Government Upper Primary School (GUPS) and Government High School (GHS) in Oni, approximately 50 kilometers from Dehradun. This initiative, part of the Smiling School Program, aimed at raising awareness of oral hygiene and providing essential dental care to students. The camp was a significant step toward addressing dental health challenges in rural areas and ensuring that children receive the preventive care they need.

Day 1: A Strong Start with Education and Checkups

The first day of the camp began with great enthusiasm as our team arrived early in the morning to set up. The day kicked off with an orientation lecture aimed at educating students about the importance of oral hygiene and preventive care. The session emphasized simple practices that can help maintain dental health from a young age, such as brushing and flossing techniques, proper nutrition, and regular dental checkups.

Following the lecture, we conducted dental checkups for 31 students, many of whom were receiving professional dental care for the first time. It was a fulfilling experience for both the children and the Himdent team, as the students showed eagerness to learn and participate.

A Special Visit and Recognition

During the camp, Shri S.P. Semwal, the Chief Education Officer of Tehri Garhwal, visited to observe the camp’s progress. His presence was a source of encouragement, and he commended the Himdent Foundation for its dedication to improving the dental health of students in rural areas. He also provided valuable suggestions on further enhancing dental awareness among schoolchildren, reinforcing the importance of continued health education initiatives.

Day 2: Overcoming Challenges to Complete Treatments

The second day began with excitement as children arrived, eager to receive their treatments. We successfully completed the treatments for students at GUPS Oni before lunch, marking significant progress. However, an unexpected power outage occurred after 10 AM, presenting a challenge. Despite this, our team remained committed and managed to complete 19 permanent restorations for 13 children.

Unfortunately, due to the power outage and time constraints, we were unable to complete the treatments for students in classes 9 and 10 at GHS Oni. However, we have assured the school that we will return to complete the treatment for these students, ensuring that no child is left untreated.

Empowering Teachers with Knowledge

A key part of the second day was an orientation lecture for the teachers, delivered by our lead dentist. The session focused on empowering teachers to reinforce oral hygiene practices among their students and integrate dental health education into their daily routines. The teachers expressed their appreciation, acknowledging that the knowledge gained would help them support their students in maintaining long-term dental health.

Gratitude and Community Impact

Both students and teachers expressed deep gratitude to the Himdent Foundation for the dental care and education they received. The camp not only provided treatments but also raised awareness of the importance of oral hygiene, empowering students and teachers alike to take preventive measures against dental issues in the future.

The positive feedback from the school community reflects the lasting impact of the camp. The Smiling School Program continues to be a vital initiative in improving the overall well-being of children in rural areas by making dental health care accessible and educating them about the importance of maintaining healthy smiles.

Conclusion: Commitment to a Brighter, Healthier Future

The two-day camp organized by the Himdent Foundation at GUPS and GHS Oni was a significant success despite the challenges faced. We are proud to have provided essential dental care to children in need and educated them on how to maintain their dental health. Although some treatments remain incomplete due to the power outage, we are committed to returning to finish the work.
