Himdent Foundation conducts follow-up dental health camp at GHS Thanedhar, Shimla
On October 15, 2024, Himdent Foundation conducted a follow-up dental health camp at Government High School (GHS) Thanedhar, Shimla under the Smiling Schools program. Six months after our last visit, our team returned to ensure that the dental health of the students was well maintained and any new issues were addressed.
Arrival in Narkanda: Preparing for Success
We arrived in Narkanda on October 14, 2024, where we will be staying for the next two days. It is a beautiful winter sports destination, and we took the opportunity to acclimatize ourselves to the area before the camp day. On the morning of the camp, we reached the school on time and immediately began setting up our equipment and preparing the site. The enthusiasm and cooperation of the students and staff created a positive atmosphere for the day’s activities.
Lecture by Dr. Aditya Vohra: Reinforcing dental health knowledge
The day began with Dr. Aditya Vohra delivering a revised lecture to the students, in which he emphasized the importance of maintaining oral hygiene and reinforced the lessons learned during our last visit. The aim of the session was to refresh the students’ knowledge on dental care practices, encouraging them to continue following the healthy habits they had adopted.
Check-ups and new findings: Building on progress
After the lecture, we examined 39 students. We were happy to see that most of the treatments performed during our last visit were still in excellent condition. This was a testimony to the efforts of the students to follow the oral hygiene practices we had taught them. However, we also found a few new cases of tooth decay in some students. Our team promptly addressed these issues by performing 17 permanent restorations.
Dr. Tanya Kumar’s pivotal role in the success of the camp
Special mention must be made of Dr. Tanya Kumar, who played a pivotal role in the success of the camp at GHS Thanedhar. Her continued commitment to the Smiling Schools program is making a significant impact in promoting oral health among students in remote areas.
